Caroline & Stephen

A little bit about you both

Myself and Stephen have been together since 6th Year in School in 2009, I was 17 and he was 18. I asked him out. We will be together 13 years in March. We have been through college, our first jobs and buying a house together since 2009. We basically grow up together and wouldn’t change one day of those years.

Tell us a bit about the proposal

This is actually a funny story, Stephen was meant to propose on the 18th of December 2015. He set up a dinner date in my favourite restaurant an Italian in Carlow, where we were both going to college together. He thought about how he was going to propose in the restaurant and decided against it because I am such an emotional person. So instead, we were both watching The Simpsons the night before in our apartment, in our pjs and he decided to propose, I cried for 40 minutes before he eventually turned around and said is that a yes then. I thank him for not doing it in public.

What suppliers did you work with?

We didn’t work with many suppliers for our wedding, my brother and his wife made the cake. My dress and the bridesmaid’s dresses were both online from JJ’s house and Stephen bought his suit in Men’s best ware. Our flowers were supplied but the local florist in Portarlington, Cooper’s.

The Powder room girls for two of my bridesmaids and my sister’s friend for myself and my maid of honour.

Why Did You CHOOSE oSPREY?

I could not have chosen any other venue to host my wedding. The ballroom and venue won me other the moment I saw it. The wedding deals they provide was right in my budget and just thoroughly a beautiful place to have wedding.

Something old, something new?

Something old was a handmade butterfly brooch my parents bought me on their 35 wedding anniversary holidays in Cyprus. Mam calls me her littler butterfly and she fell in love with the brooch when she saw it.

Something new was a pair of earrings my sister bought me as a wedding present.

Something borrowed was a necklace from my Nanny that matched my shoes.

Something blue was my garter.

The Big Day

Our big day was the best day of our lives. I wouldn’t change a single thing. We celebrated the day with 60 of our closest friends and family. It was also my 30th birthday so I got to celebrate it in style and known there was a special someone there without being shown (our first baby due in May 2022).
From start to finish the staff at the Osprey hotel especially Catherine Bunn was amazing, and I could fault a thing about the amazing staff. Our ceremony was so special even if I did cry through the whole thing. Our meal was perfect, and everyone enjoyed it.
Our music through out the day was chosen by the two of us, so my bridesmaids walk down the aisle to Thunderstruck by AC/DC as Thunder was my surname. Then myself and my dad walked down the aisle to You Are The Reason by Callum Scott.
Our first dance was James Arthur Say You Won’t Let Go; this song always made me cry because I was thought of Stephen when I heard it. I just knew I was going to spend the rest of my life loving this man.

Post Wedding celebrations

We went home and slept the day after the wedding we were wrecked but it was well worth it.  The Wednesday after we went on a mini moon to trim Castle hotel and had a lovely day and night together as husband and wife.
