This autumn, Fáilte Ireland – Ireland’s official tourism body - have launched a very special campaign to celebrate Ireland’s fantastic homegrown produce. Taste the Island is a showcase of Ireland’s world-renowned food and drink culture, giving everyone from large scale restaurants to small local producers a chance to show off what makes them stand out. Here at Osprey Hotel, we are proud of our local area and the Irish homegrown produce grown here, a lot of which we use in our Herald & Devoy restaurant.
Instead of focusing on a specific region in Ireland, this new campaign aims to share the spotlight between all parts of the country and the specialist products you can find there. The aim is to provide all visitors to Ireland with access to authentic food and drink experiences made using high quality, locally sourced ingredients. As summer is the busiest time of the year, the Taste the Island showcase will take place across the country from Sept to November with many hotels and other hospitality companies taking part and offering suitable packages. September and October are the traditional harvest months in the Irish food industry, making it the perfect time to sample the best of what Irelands growing food scene has to offer.
As part of the country-wide programme, there will be much more than dining experiences available. You can also find out exactly how the food gets from farm to fork and the processes and people involved each step of the way. Visitors can experience everything from visits to food and drink producers, distillers and brewers, food trails, food festivals and learning traditional skills like foraging and fishing. The dining experiences will vary from Michelin star restaurants to traditional Irish food served in small-town pubs and cafes.
